Programs and Activities
Welcome to Queertego! We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a feminist community that loves, supports, and advocates for queer people in Montego Bay and Western Jamaica. Our community activities and programs are designed to provide support and resources while building and strengthening community.
Our Activities
At Queertego, we are dedicated to offering a range of activities to meet the diverse needs of queer folx in Western Jamaica. Our events are designed to create safe inclusive spaces for community building, fostering engagement, solidarity and nurturing queer joy.
Queerolic
The first Mobay Pride event in years, held in October 2024, Queerolic was a celebration of communitiy, togetherness, and queer expression through costume.
Rendezvous
Rendezvous was a picnic and funday we held in August of 2023. It was our first Pride event, and the first pride event for many attendees. This was a partnership with EqualityJA through their #PrideShare program.
Forums
A regular community space for members to come together and discuss topics and issues that affect them. It is a space of engagement, listening and learning, to help build a stronger community.
Open Mic
This was a womens-focused event created to highlight the creative work, poetry, singing, spoken word and story of the women in our community.
Flicks
One of our earliest events, of which we have done a few editions. Its a movie and games night created to foster feelings of community while highlighting queer media, especially those from a afro-caribbean and black perspective.
Queeraoke
Our karaoke night, providing a safe non-judgemental space for our community members to set free their voices and share the music they love.
Our Aspirations
At Queertego, we are always working towards doing more. The queer community faces great psychological, economic and social challenges due to queerphobia. We aim to provide a welcoming and inclusive refuge for everyone who comes into community with us.

Mental Health Support
We intend to provide regular and ongoing mental health support services such as financial support for therapy, online and in-person support groups, and providing resources for queer wellbeing.
Annual Pride Celebrations
Community Center and Safe House
We hope to one day have the finacial backing to establish and maintain a community center and series of safe-houses to better support our community especially in times of need.
We want to sustain our efforts to bring Pride back to Montego Bay, as part of our overall goal of increasing the visibility of and activism for queer community in Western Jamaica.
